Okay, so in an effort to remain unspoiled for Deathly Hollows I am now reading my friends list on a no communities filter and only allowing friends to comment. I was starting to get worried about spoilers showing up but didn't really think I had any communities to worry about, but then deliberate spoilers showed up on the FanForum Community. Thanks to Steph, Nate, and Jenna for the warnings before I got to the spoiler post.

Edited to add: [info]anemonerose, since I will be reading on a no communities filter would it be possible for you to cross-post anything I might need to know about the book release meetup to your LJ, or you could just give me a call.

Also better late than never, my quick thoughts on the OotP movie behind the cut:

So my pre-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows re-read has not been going so well. Surprisingly enough it wasn't Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets that held me up, but one of my favorite books Goblet of Fire. I felt like I had been reading it forever. I had been planning to do a post about my thoughts on books 1-4 (I tend to group those all together because I read them all at once), but I'm still tired as hell from being up until past 3am for the Order of the Phoenix midnight show and then getting up today to go to work at 8am. So while I still want to do a post about that and one about my thoughts on the movie I'll just leave you with some brief thoughts on the movie and two things I noticed that bothered me during my re-read:

- I loved, loved, loved the movie. My new favorite HP movie. I've now seen it twice (once at the employee screening at work on Monday, and then the midnight show on Tuesday). Tuesday was definitely a lot more fun. People cheered, clapped, and laughed at fandom moments. I got to spend the hours before the movie talking with the lovely people of hp_stlouis and in a theater full of people just as crazy as we are.

- Until this reading I never noticed that in Sorcerer's Stone that Harry's friends make a sign for his first Quidditch match that says "Potter for President". That bothered me so much and I can't believe I didn't notice it before. I know the earlier American version books are much more Americanized than the later ones, but whether you are American or not, the British still don't have Presidents.

- At the end of Goblet of Fire when they are leaving school, Harry mentions seeing the horseless carriages. I think it jumped out at me because I had just seen the OotP movie, but he should be able to see the thestrals at that point. Is this explained in OotP and I just can't remember it, or is it just a continuity mess up?

Tomorrow night I plan to read all the OotP reviews that I skipped over today while skimming my friends list, and maybe I'll get around to making one of those two posts.

Happy Birthday to [info]anemonerose!!

Also for [info]anemonerose, I looked up the Shakespeare Festival, it starts at 8pm on Sunday. I don't know what we want to do before(a lot of people come early and bring food, helps to get better seats), but you can give me a call on my cellphone tonight or tomorrow and we can work something out.

OMG
Go Cardinals!! Here's hoping we continue to perform well as the underdogs.

I'm just catching up with all the game highlights, since I was at work during the game. At work we were keeping up with the play by play on stltoday.com, furiously refreshing the page. Good luck to the Cards in Detroit.

I'm not a big one for meme's, but for some reason the birthday one caught my attention.

Go to Wikipedia and look up your birth day (excluding the year). List three neat facts, two births and one death in your journal, including the year.

Birthday- February 20

Events-

1792 - The Postal Service Act, establishing the United States Post Office Department, is signed by President George Washington
1872 - In New York City the Metropolitan Museum of Art opens.
1962 - Mercury program: While aboard Friendship 7, John Glenn orbits the earth three times in 4 hours, 55 minutes, becoming the first American to orbit the earth.

Births-

1927 - Roy Cohn, American lawyer, and anti-Communist (d. 1986)
1967 - Kurt Cobain, American musician (Nirvana) (d. 1994)

Well following [info]jennaxrose and [info]awshucks I guess I'll post my fall tv viewing schedule. I think that if Fox stays with doing its premiere's before the baseball playoffs then they need to start putting out the Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide fall previews like a week or two earlier.

So I finished on Monday. I quite surprised myself by finishing so early, considering by Saturday's end I was only on page 80 or so. However I worked projection on Sunday which gave me ample opportunity to read and didn't work until Monday night. By the time I absolutely had to leave for work on Monday, I had two pages left, so I brought it with me, which led to me having a lovely and dorky conversation today with my new boss who also finished it Monday. During this conversation we ruined the rest of the series, so far, for a fellow worker who doesn't read the books, just watches the movies(Gah!). We were at least good enough to make sure he didn't care about spoilers. HP dorkiness makes me like new boss all the better, considering that our last boss hated Harry Potter for some reason.

Anyway, Friday night Merin and I, along with other members of HP St. Louis went to a book release that was like a little street fair. I liked it much better than OotP experience since I wasn't crammed in a bookstore for my entire wait. Also the line moved so lovely and fast for the pre-orders, it was a dream. Overall I had a good time. By the time Friday came around I had not finished my OotP re-read and after conversations with people about OotP at the release I decided to finish before diving into HBP, since it made me realize I really didn't remember much about the end. So I spent most of Friday night/Saturday morning reading OotP, and finished after I woke up on Saturday. Only then did I start HBP.

So my thoughts on HBP. Spoilers Ahead. )

Okay I’ve been typing forever and I cannot believe I wrote that much, when I felt like I had very little to say when I started. I would love to continue reading what everyone else thought of the book.

Sadly as I’m starting to get sick and it is already nearing 4am, I should go to sleep. Probably more on HP later, though I may reread through the whole series first, it has been a long time since I’ve read the first four.

So I am so stupid. Either that or I've worked at a movie theater too long. Possibly both. Up until yesterday I thought that HBP was coming out Saturday night/Sunday morning, because at my theater we would say midnight Saturday the 16th for that, even though that's not technically correct, we want it to be on the same business day. So I applied that logic to Harry Potter. I'm just glad I figured out before I asked off for Saturday night, and ended up having to work during the day again like last Saturday.

The release being Friday night/Saturday morning means that there is no way that I'm going to finish my OotP reread before the new book comes out. I had counted on having all of Friday night to read. I'm going to keep reading so I can refresh as much as possible before the new book. The more I read the more I realize that I remember almost nothing from the OotP. I remember that Sirius died, and that pushed everything else that happened before out of my head. I completely forgot about Petunia's strange communications with the wizard world. I had blocked most of Umbridge from my mind, I remembered that she existed but forgot how annoying and evil she was.

I would talk about spoilers but anyone on my friends list who could possibly spoil me for the book has already been warned by everyone else on my friends list to make sure spoilers are behind cut tags. You don't have to worry about spoilers for me. I want to read the speculations about the new book that everyone is posting but I've been trying to resist because I'm worried about people possibly being influenced by spoilers, so I've been working my hardest to avoid those too. I have very few expectations since like I said I barely remember the last book, I just hope she stays away from shipping, because I don't want to see the fandom go crazy.

I'm finally starting to get excited, which I hadn't been yet(I mean I just pre-ordered my book last week), so at least that's a good sign. Happy reading everyone.

Just stopping by quick to say Happy Birthday to [info]jennaxrose!! Hope you had a great day.

Now I must get offline to fully devote my attention to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I've been wanting to watch it again for weeks, but never seem to have the time, so now I will watch it in honor of its Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay.

So I've been making up a list of things I would like for Christmas to give my mom, so she'll have some idea of things I would want, and also so she has something to tell relatives when they ask about something I'd like. Normally my list tends to be a mix of movies, books, and music, but right now all it really has is DVDs. I feel like I'm in kind of a book funk currently, so I'm asking for your book recommendations so maybe I'll have some to wish for.

I don't really care about the genre of book, or how many recs you give me. You can give me one rec or you give me many, you could tell me about your favorite book, or the great book you just finished reading. Just having some books to look into will get me thinking about books again. So please give me recs. Thanks in advance.

Wow, the new update page is freaking me out. That's how you can tell I haven't updated in a long time, because the update page which I know changed long ago is absolutely new to me.

I actually haven't updated since August(edited: or it could have been late July) for a variety of reasons. Among them are that our computer has been really slow and crazy acting because it is pretty old, we got it fixed somewhat but it is still not as good as it could be. During the worst time it was taking me about 30 minutes just to get on to the internet, checking my friend's list would take another 60-90 minutes, and by the time I was done with that, any motivation I had to post was gone. Plus who knows how much time that would have taken itself.

Also because I'm out of school and working at a movie theater I feel as if I have nothing to talk about. I haven't quite mastered the art of talking about the mundane parts of life in an interesting way, which I enjoy in so many of my friend's journals. Also it's hard to talk about movie theater people without mentioning names, which I'm not quite comfortable doing as I don't want the chance of someone from RL popping in uninvited, and figuring out who I am. I've given some thought to going friends only or semi-friends only and probably will still do one or the other, probably the latter. I don't really think many besides my friends list really reads this journal anyway, especially since I've taken such a long hiatus from posting. However that way I will feel a little more comfortable relating what goes on at work, and not have the trouble of trying to disguise names, etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So here I'll try and give a quick little(or long, whatever) update on me since you last heard from me, it'll basically be just what pops in my mind, and may be of little to no importance( I'll be kind and do a cut tag):
Cut because this was much longer than I thought it would be )
Well I was going to watch a movie after I got offline, but this post has just taken me too long, so I guess I'll just read.
Today I helped my younger brother sign up for his first semester of college classes. He's starting off at a community college to save a little money. Both him and my mother were clueless as to what to do with scheduling, and my mom has been worrying about it for weeks, so I took over for my mom in the role of helper. It made me sad that I wouldn't be registering for classes and going back to school in the fall.
I had today off from work, and used some of my graduation money to go get a new car stereo. My old CD player has been broken for a year after a botched attempt to steal it. While it still worked, going over a bump or just looking at it wrong would cause it to fly on the floor, which was very annoying. So I'm happy to have a new CD player, and just need to get used to not putting my hand up to keep it from falling off. The installation however took forever, I was there for almost 2 hours, and for part of that time I was sitting right next to a very annoying teenage couple. These two were giggling, running around the store, and engaging in many inappropriate PDAs.
After that I went and saw Napoleon Dynamite. I didn't know quite what to think of it. It was really about nothing, not much plot. While it was funny and I often found myself laughing, its comedy was most often at the expense of the main character in a way that was almost cruel. I think I liked it, but I can't quite say.
I'm about to do a much needed update of my user info. Seeing as I'm no longer 21 or a college student. It's something that has needed to be done for a long time and I've just been too lazy to do it.
